Visualise Ad Hoc View data in a new and insightful format
Creating a requires a view with fields available in the columns field
The following example will run through how a Chart can be created to show how the engagement budget has been distributed across the various areas of law.
Create the Ad Hoc View:
1. Navigate to the Reporting Portal
2. Within the Ad Hoc Views section, select Create
3. Select the Budget Details Topic to base the chart on.
4. Define the Input Controls
5. Ad Hoc VIews default to the crosstab visualisation. Change to a Chart view by Clicking on the chart icon and select the chart type.
Prior to closing the window after selecting the visualisation type, the number of fields/measures needed for the visualisation is noted.
6. Select Pie from the Pie chart visualisation type and click on 'Apply and Close'.
7. Double-click on the 'Engagement_Budget' in the 'Measures' Panel on the bottom-left-hand side to add the field to the 'Columns' row.
NOTE: You will have to scroll through the fields in the 'Measures' Panel to locate the 'Engagement Budget' field
8. Double-click on the 'Engagement_Area_of_Law' in the 'Fields' Panel on the left-hand side to add the field to the 'Rows' row.
9. The chart initially will show the sum of the engagement budgets across all areas of law. To view the distribution of the engagement budget across Area's of Law, drag the row's slider to drag in the Filters panel.
10. Save the view in the user folder.
Tips and Troubleshooting
Save a chart view as a report
1. Click on the floppy disk icon and select 'Save Ad Hoc View and Create Report'.
2.Save As(pop-up):
- Report Name - Create a name for the report
- Report Description - Write a quick summary of the view (optional)
- Select the folder where you want to save the view (typically the user folder found within the organisation's folder)
- Click '+' or '-' to expand or contract a folder's views.
- Select 'Save'
3. 'Save was successful' message appears as a banner across the top of your screen.
